NYSED Grant: Excelling in Remote/Hybrid Education Together
This month, the Center wraps Phase 1 of the Teaching in Remote/Hybrid Learning Environment (TRLE) project of the NYSED Rethink Grant after conducting hundreds of focus groups. Teachers, students, leaders, and community stakeholders shared their experiences with remote learning.
As schools reopen, CTLC Director Dr. Nicole Galante and her team will engage in Phase 2 of the grant work, developing supportive and evaluative standards for quality remote teaching, known as the QRT Framework. The Framework’s defining core competencies and promising practices in remote/hybrid learning environments will guide professional training opportunities for teachers and will ground districts in growth areas for reimagined education in New York.

Leveraging the Blended Learning Model in
Remote/Hybrid Environments
Instructor Jason Rupertus knew that teaching through a pandemic would pose its challenges. He says, “Standing in front of a class lecturing wasn't going to work, so I completely changed the way I taught. I flipped my classroom so my students watch my video lectures for homework and in class we focus on activities, projects, and writing. My students responded with enthusiasm. One student said, 'It doesn’t feel like I’m doing homework, it feels like I’m watching a YouTube video.' If a student is absent, they watch the lectures at home and return without missing a beat.”
The Blended Learning Classroom Workshop helps teachers reimagine their pedagogy for more effective, more joyful teaching in a remote/hybrid environment.
